Management is all about practical implications of the theoretical concepts. In lieu of this, students are required to have Industrial Visits besides their classes in order to have a thorough understanding of the Industrial Modus – operandi. With this objective in mind, a one – day Industrial Visit was organized by “Centre for Management Studies, JIS College of Engineering” on 18th April 2019 at “Bengal Beverage Private Limited” plant in Dankuni, West Bengal.
Bengal Beverage Pvt Ltd, authorized Coca Cola Bottling Plant at Dankuni, West Bengal, was established in 1984 with one unit (Unit-I) of production focused on RGB (Recycling Glass Bottles) . In 2011, there is an expansion of another unit (Unit-II) which is focused on Juice line. Bengal Beverage has 44% of the market share and catering to the demand of 9 districts of West Bengal like Hooghly, North 24 Parganas etc.
The visit was planned for the students of MBA- Second Semester and BBA- final Semester , accompanied by the Faculty-coordinators (Prof. Swati Pal , and Prof. Uttiya Kar . The bus left the college Campus by 8:45 am with a total of 40 students. The group reached the plant by 10:05am. After two hours of Journey, we got refreshed with the sip of cold drinks offered by them.
An introductory session was conducted by Mr. Diptarup Chowdhury (HR Business Partner) who presented us with the company’s insight in a nutshell such as:
- An insight into the historical background of Coca Cola
- Products offered worldwide i.e. Thumbs Up, Maaza, Sprite, Fanta, Coke and Kinley.
- Quality Standards followed
- Various Certifications acquired (ISO 9001,ISO 14000,ISO 50000)
- Mentioned about every activity happening in the plant like washing of bottles, filling, capping, labelling and packaging.
- Lastly, he splintered the myths regarding the ill effects of Coca-Cola logically.
After his insightful session, we have been offered lunch before getting familiar with the production process. After the session the students were taken to the Assembly Line and briefed about the Processes and Operations undertaken by the plant. Two Quality controllers, Mr. Manna & Mr. Saipan guided us to the two unit of RGB & SSD plant and shared the overview of sequential production process. After visiting both of the unit, we came to conference hall for FAQ Session of both technical and non-technical question related to the production process and company as a whole. The curiosity of the students was finally satisfied when a question answer session was conducted by Mr. Diptarup Chowdhury. The students were provided with deep insights about the working of the Plant and each and every question was patiently answered by him. The visit was finally concluded around 01:30 pm.
Finally, a small token of felicitation from JIS College of Engineering to Mr. Chowdhury was presented for this wonderful visit. The students left the plant around 01:45 pm. The industrial visit to Bengal Beverage, Coca-Cola was an enriching experience for students in getting live exposure to manufacturing process which can help them in their internships and further career enhancements.
